The Cairns Regional Council is developing a new Creative Life Strategy to succeed the 2022 Strategy for Culture and Arts, which was aligned with the Corporate Plan 2017-2022. This new strategy aims to meet the needs of the community, creatives, businesses, and visitors and align with Council's Towards 2050: Shaping Cairns program.

Objectives of the Creative Life Strategy:

  • Promote a rich and diverse culture through public facilities and community initiatives.
  • Enhance Cairns' reputation as Northern Australia's Arts and Cultural Capital.
  • Foster vibrancy through community events and activities.
  • Support social and community groups.
  • Celebrate and share culture, heritage, and place.

Achievements of the Previous Strategy:

  • Improved community wellbeing through arts and culture.
  • Attracted new audiences to cultural venues and creative spaces.
  • Increased appreciation and conservation of the region’s heritage.
  • Promoted creative excellence and innovation.
  • Met community expectations for vibrant and accessible spaces.
  • Boosted Cairns' national and international arts and culture identity.
