Cairns Botanic Gardens Masterplan Review

The Cairns Botanic Gardens is one of Australia’s premier Botanic Gardens and showcases a wide variety of native tropical and exotic plant species. In consultation with the community, Council has undertaken a review of the Cairns Botanic Gardens Masterplan 2005.

Key outcomes of the review have recommended a range of improvements that will create new and exciting experiences for the public, improve connectivity and access, improve Council operations and ensure that the site continues to evolve and adapt to a changing climate, as well as remaining a key destination for the region. Council invites the public to view the plans and provide any feedback they have.

The cafe within the gardens needs to be updated not removed. It is more in keeping for a botanical garden than the new concrete one.

The nature play is not fenced off from the water. The reason it’s not used more is all the mosquitos. Better off shifting to alternate place

"The old cafe is a tired space" is a hideous phrase. The place is sure in need of some upgrading (toilets) but to bulldoze it is insane.

Mary venables says:

Stop stripping all the lush green undergrowth away and stop cutting down trees to spoil the canopy PLEASE

Diane says:

Keep the quiet, peaceful cafe that blends with the planting around it. More in keeping than the noisy cafe at visitors centre.

I think the Japanese Friendship garden would be a great addition to Cairns and support the large Japanese community. I strongly support this

Eva says:

Impossible to use Nature Play Space due to mosquitos. Please allocate funds where community actually can use space.

There definitely needs to be a cafe & sitting area in the garden where people can relax and take in the gardens.

Yes Speed Bumps or some other speeding deterrent should be added to Collins Avenue. I too have witnessed animals being hit.
